Ancient Wisdom for Modern Families: A Study of Proverbs
by Steve Wood
Parents often ask the question, “How do I make the Faith stick with my children so they don’t wander during their late teens and 20s?” Many parents find out too late that the faith formation of their children couldn’t withstand teen peer pressure and the lure of secularism and immorality during the college years. Therefore, the question on how to make the Faith stick is one of the wisest questions a parent can ask … before a washout tragically occurs.
A new study (by The Barna Group) shows that despite strong levels of spiritual activity during the teen years, most twenty-somethings disengage from active participation in the Christian faith. They study found that six out of ten twenty-somethings were involved in a church during their teen years, but have failed to translate that into active spirituality during their early adulthood. Is there a remedy for this?
Parents, just imagine if God himself would author a book that would provide the often forgotten but essential truths that would prevent such faith washout.
Imagine further that God has equipped a group of special religious instructors to use this divine book to cement youth firmly to their faith and morals. What Catholic parent wouldn’t want this for their children?
This special book and the uniquely equipped instructors actually exist and both are in your home! Mom and Dad you are the instructors and the book God-authored book (via human agents) is the book of Proverbs. What does this book offer your children?
In addition to the above, Proverbs offers wisdom for a host of other topics impacting modern family life.
Proverbs is an indispensable book of the Bible for every Catholic family.
